FRA KAPP A CABO North Cape to Gibraltar by bike, summer '98 |
Arrived in TromsøAfter a short last night sleep in Amsterdam, we took the first train to Schiphol and at 8 am our journey had started. Bikes in the hold of the plane going north with a speed that will take months to do the other way round by bike.Forty minutes in Oslo was just enough to transfer to the next plane including the bicycles and finally we landed at Tromsø. What a relief. The only broken part was one bicycle bell. For the rest everything even unscratched. Then leaving the airport, hitting the road and immediately we could try our lowest gears. Including all luggage the hills will require some more proper training of our muscles. But time will do ...
The youth-hostel opened the day after our arrival in Tromsø and the cabins smelled too much of bleach, so we jumped in and pitched our tent. Which was immediately rewarded with the most beautiful weather. Sun, sun, sun ... and in the background the sound of a little river. With plenty of water, because the mountain tops are still covered with snow. And many cars still have the ski-racks on the roof.
But for us it's a weekend of getting our last equipment, sitting on terraces and enjoying ourselves. In the meantime we try to learn a few words Norwegian and have a look at the sloop races that are held in the harbor. Many people in costumes and lots of laughter and noise. Don't take it all too seriously. |
